Near Infrared Spectral Linearisation in Quantifying Soluble Solids Content of Intact Carambola

This study presents a novel application of near infrared (NIR) spectral linearisation for measuring the soluble solids content (SSC) of carambola fruits. NIR spectra were measured using reflectance and interactance methods. In this study, only the interactance measurement technique successfully generated a reliable measurement result with a coefficient of determination of (R2) = 0.724 and a roo...

Pulse glucometry: A new approach for noninvasive blood glucose measurement using instantaneous differential near-infrared spectrophotometry.

We describe a new optical method for noninvasive blood glucose (BGL) measurement. Optical methods are confounded by basal optical properties of tissues, especially water and other biochemical species, and by the very small glucose signal. We address these problems by using fast spectrophotometric analysis in a finger, deriving 100 transmittance spectra per second, to resolve optical spectra (90...

Nondestructive determination of total and soluble solids in fresh prune using near infrared spectroscopy

A nondestructive optical method for determining the total solids content (TSC) and soluble solids content (SSC) of fresh whole prune (Prunus domestica L. ‘French’) was investigated. The method, based upon near infrared spectrophotometric techniques, could predict the TSC (r /0. 98, SEP /0.80% FW) and SSC (r /0. 96, SEP / 1.02%) of prunes. A low cost ($250

Nondestructive Determination of Soluble Solids in Tomatoes using Near Infrared Spectroscopy

A nondestructive optical method for determining the soluble solids content of fresh whole tomatoes was investigated. The method, based upon near infrared spectrophotometric techniques, could predict the soluble solids content of tomatoes (r 5 0.92, SEC 5 0.277Brix). Tomatoes from more than 30 popular fresh market cultivars at stages of maturity from mature green to ripe red fruit were studied.
